Salomon Shoe Sizing Guide: Do They Run Small?

Salomon shoes run about half a size small, which is deliberate: trail running shoes are intentionally built snug so the foot does not move inside the shoe on technical terrain. Size up half a size from your usual US size for most Salomon trail models. The XT-6 streetwear silhouette is the exception — it runs closer to true to size.

Across our data Salomon runs small: 45% of wearers report it runs small, 45% true to size and 10% large.

Salomon sizing philosophy

Salomon was founded in 1947 in Annecy, France, in the heart of the Alps, and its footwear DNA is trail and mountain performance. A snug fit is a feature, not a flaw: on steep descents, a foot that slides forward in the shoe bruises the toes; a foot locked in place does not. The intentionally snug Salomon last reflects that mountain engineering, which is why the brand explicitly tells buyers to size up.

The Quicklace system (the distinctive pull-cord closure) also contributes to the fit experience: it cinches the midfoot uniformly but cannot compensate for a shoe that is too short. Getting the length right first, then adjusting with the Quicklace, is the correct sequence — and that sequence starts with going half a size up from your usual number.

How Salomon models differ

There is no single "Salomon size" — different lines are graded on different lasts. Here is how the key models compare:

Speedcross (technical trail)
The narrowest and most aggressive Salomon silhouette — designed for grip on soft terrain. Half a size up is essential; wide feet may need a full size up.
Sense Ride / Ultra Glide (versatile trail)
A slightly more accommodating last than the Speedcross. Half a size up is standard; the 2E wide grade helps for wide feet.
XT-6 (lifestyle / streetwear)
The exception to Salomon's snug rule: the XT-6 is built on a more generous lifestyle last and fits closer to true to size. Many buyers go true or at most a half size up.

Practical sizing advice

If you normally wear US 9, start by checking Salomon trail shoes in US 9.5 — snug fit is intentional and the half-size-up move is widely consistent across the trail range.

If your feet are wide

Salomon offers a 2E wide grade on select Sense Ride and Ultra Glide models — limited but useful. The Speedcross is narrow and uncompromising; wide-footed trail runners should look at the wider-lasted Ultra Glide or consider sizing up a full size rather than half.

If you wear US 9, start by checking Salomon in US 9.5

This table starts from the US size you wear in a true-to-size brand, converts it to a foot length, and applies Salomon's measured fit so you can see the first size to check — plus the UK, EU and CM equivalents.

Salomon recommended size by the US size you normally wear (fit offset -0.5).
You normally wear (US) Foot length Check Salomon (US) UK EU CM
US 7 246mm US 7.5 6 37 24.5
US 8 254mm US 8.5 7 38 25.5
US 9 262mm US 9.5 8 39 26
US 10 271mm US 10.5 9 41 27
US 11 279mm US 11.5 10 42 28
US 12 288mm US 12.5 11 43 29

EU sizes are always rounded to a whole size — there is no exact half-size equivalent. The recommended Salomon size applies this brand's average fit; individual models still vary, so check the model notes above.
