Crocs Shoe Sizing Guide: Do They Run Small?
Crocs run large — the Classic Clog is intentionally roomy by design, with extra length and width so the foot can breathe and move. Most buyers find their standard US size fits with plenty of room. If you want a snug fit (better for walking, less "clunky" feel), size down half a size. Lined Crocs run smaller because the lining takes up interior volume.
Across our data Crocs runs large: 3% of wearers report it runs small, 32% true to size and 65% large.
Crocs sizing philosophy
Crocs were designed in 2002 as boat shoes — to be worn wet, to drain quickly, and to be easy to slip on and off. The Croslite foam material is both the brand's signature and the reason for its sizing quirk: Croslite is a closed-cell foam that does not stretch, so Crocs are built with intentional length and width oversize to give the foot room even if the foam compresses slightly over time. The result is a shoe that fits loosely by conventional standards and was never intended to fit otherwise.
The wide range of Crocs silhouettes — Classic Clog, Bistro (workplace), lined versions, and clogs vs slides — all sit on the same fundamental platform but with different volume. The liner trims roughly half a size of interior space; the Bistro has a more protective, slightly snugger fit; and the slides have no heel strap, which changes the fit dynamic entirely.
How Crocs models differ
There is no single "Crocs size" — different lines are graded on different lasts. Here is how the key models compare:
- Classic Clog
- The roomy baseline. Fits intentionally large — most buyers take true to size and accept the room, or go half a size down for a more controlled fit.
- Classic Lined Clog
- Half a size snugger than the unlined version due to the fleece or fur lining. If you wear a classic in US 9, try US 9 or 9.5 in lined.
- Bistro (workplace clog)
- More snug and protective than the Classic, with a metatarsal guard. Tends to fit closer to true to size.
Practical sizing advice
If you normally wear US 9, start by checking Crocs Classic in US 9 (comfortable room) or US 8.5 (snugger, more athletic feel). Lined Crocs: stay at US 9 to compensate for the liner.
If your feet are wide
Crocs are among the most wide-foot-friendly shoes on the market — the standard Croslite platform is intentionally wide and the foam does not grip the foot the way a leather or knit upper does. No dedicated wide grade is needed; the standard Classic Clog accommodates very wide feet comfortably.
If you wear US 9, start by checking Crocs in US 8.5
This table starts from the US size you wear in a true-to-size brand, converts it to a foot length, and applies Crocs's measured fit so you can see the first size to check — plus the UK, EU and CM equivalents.
| You normally wear (US) | Foot length | Check Crocs (US) | UK | EU | CM |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| US 7 | 246mm | US 6.5 | 6 | 37 | 24.5 |
| US 8 | 254mm | US 7.5 | 7 | 38 | 25.5 |
| US 9 | 262mm | US 8.5 | 8 | 39 | 26 |
| US 10 | 271mm | US 9.5 | 9 | 41 | 27 |
| US 11 | 279mm | US 10.5 | 10 | 42 | 28 |
| US 12 | 288mm | US 11.5 | 11 | 43 | 29 |
EU sizes are always rounded to a whole size — there is no exact half-size equivalent. The recommended Crocs size applies this brand's average fit; individual models still vary, so check the model notes above.
