Wide Fit Shoes: Complete Width Guide

Width is a separate axis from length. Going up a size to fit a wide foot often creates a shoe that is too long; wide feet need the right width grade and brand.

Width is its own axis: D, 2E, 4E and 6E are not the same as simply adding length. If the toes have length but the forefoot is squeezed, try a wide width or a different last before sizing up.

How to measure foot width

  1. Measure both feet while standing, ideally late in the day when feet are at their largest.
  2. Width is its own axis: D, 2E, 4E and 6E are not the same as simply adding length.
  3. After the formula, check the brand and model page because fit offset can move the final size by a half size or more.
